The 4 cm thick mat has a firmer foam core that doesn't compress as much underfoot. However, it still provides good protection against falls. This effect is more pronounced in the thicker and softer mat. Thus, we recommend the thinner mat primarily for permanent use and the thicker variant for when you're aiming higher.
